Lee Roy Selmon has a background that is a combination of family scholarships football and volunteer work in the community. The first line of his family was that Selmon is the eldest of nine kids who were raised by Eufala by Lucious Selmon. Another reason for his football career was that he is the youngest of three brothers who played with Oklahoma. All three brothers were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy was named the most offensive lineman in the country by Outland and Lombardi Awards. He won two championships and 31-1-1 during his three years as Oklahoma's starter. Selmon was given a second scholarship in 1975 and designated a National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon earned a degree from the University of California in Berkeley. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer hours per week during college. Then he settled in Tampa after graduation, and played with the Buccaneers for nine years and made three times all-pro. His career in business began. By 1988 he had become an Account Representative for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked with these groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute on Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 The Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized him as one of 10 of the most notable young males. When he was a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and was weighing 256 pounds. He coached his university team in the year 1975. In 1993, he became the assistant director of the University of South Florida. In 1988, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. In addition, he was inducted into an appearance in the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His parents, Lucious and Mary Selmon Jr. have been awarded the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma gave it to them.
